Who Attends Mathcamp?High-school and junior high-school students from around the world, who enjoy mathematics and are good at it, are encouraged to apply for admission to Mathcamp. Most Mathcamp students come from the USA or Canada; however, we welcome applications from students from other countries. (In past years, home countries of Mathcamp students have included Bulgaria, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Poland, Serbia, Singapore, Switzerland, and Turkey.) The tremendous variety of students at Mathcamp is one of the camp's greatest assets. As one of our students put it, "At Mathcamp you meet many new, nice, encouraging, interesting, and weird people. I got to see a whole new world of people that I wouldn't have encountered around here or at school." Mathcamp seeks out and actively encourages applications from girls and from minority students. These applicants are given special consideration for scholarships. You can read about some girls' experiences at Mathcamp here. All students must be between 13 and 18 years of age. For Mathcamp 2002, your birth date must be between August 12, 1983 and July 7, 1989. Application information can be found here on the Mathcamp web site, or from the Mathcamp brochure. Brochures are distributed in January or February to most high schools and junior high schools in the USA and Canada and other schools throughout the world. Ask your math teacher for a brochure, or e-mail Mathcamp to obtain one. If you are interested in speaking with a former Mathcamp student about his or her experiences at the camp, please e-mail Mathcamp and someone will try to find a former camper (living as close to you as possible) for you to speak with. |
