okay
12
13
14
okay well what are we doing about recycling in our community
15
16
17
well well in our area we just introduced the um citywide
18
uh Clean King Sport campaign and we have a recycling mascot called Kleanaroo he's a kangaroo and um we're setting up curbside recycling bins for the city home owners
19
and several of our local businesses also have recycling stations set up in their parking lots
20
21
22
um-hum
23
24
25
and how about in your area
26
27
28
well in our i live in a very small community outside of the Dallas area and uh we're just getting started as a matter of fact this last week we got a notice in the mail from City Hall
29
and they've informed us that uh we'd be getting more instructions in the mail in a week or two but we're going to start a separation of our refuse and separating the cans from the paper et cetera
30
31
32
um-hum
33
34
35
and apart of that we haven't really done much of anything except for uh separating your newspapers and taking those to uh an area that they've designated um
36
but in uh in the office place we've been doing it for some time separating our uh uh computer paper from our normal garbage
37
38
39
all right so have we we've been doing the computer paper and then we've also been doing our aluminum cans
40
41
42
uh-huh
43
what do they do with the cans
44
45
46
i that's the one thing i don't know i i don't know if they take them to the local aluminum uh recycling plant
47
48
49
um-hum
50
51
52
uh just locally or or what i assume that's what they would do
53
54
55
i would assume so and then maybe do something with the money for charity or something
56
57
58
i would hope
59
yeah i i think that's what they do i think they they give that to charity
60
61
62
i
63
yeah that's a good idea and and uh other than the work place and here at home um
64
i don't know too much is going on in the community i know that in Plano it's a larger city in the area they they uh i believe about a month or two ago they started having the citizens separate their refuse
65
66
67
okay
68
69
70
and they've even um got a particular huge uh waste can that they have to use
71
72
73
oh for each different product oh okay
74
75
76
right uh-huh that makes it kind of easier then you remember you know
77
78
79
yeah
80
i i was going to say i've seen in some of these um local mail order catalogs they've got trash can dividers for for home owners who don't have those it it
81
82
83
um-hum
84
oh uh-huh
85
86
87
it like cuts your trash can in half so you could put cans on one side and and other on the other side so
88
89
90
other side that's a good idea
91
92
93
i think i think a lot of people are jumping on the band wagon
94
95
96
um-hum
97
98
99
um
100
as far as you know should more be done i think there's i think there's always more that can be done
101
102
103
i think as we all get in the swing of things this is just a beginning don't you think
104
105
106
yes i've even heard them talking about uh recycling Freon from refrigerators refrigeration systems yes there are people there are companies that recycle their Freon
107
108
109
110
111
oh really
112
um-hum
113
114
115
and um i'm sure there are a lot chemicals that that can be recycled that
116
117
118
yeah i know the motor oil
119
120
121
there's a lot of
122
um-hum
123
124
125
we have places that we can take our motor oil to if you change your own oil at home i
126
127
128
now that's we we don't have that that's neat
129
130
131
132
133
um KMart does that some of the KMarts in the area where i don't have any except for the lawn motor lawn mower
134
135
136
oh
137
uh-huh
138
139
140
um machine oil because i always have my oil changed out of the house but
141
142
143
but but you'd think that uh garages could do that
144
145
146
yes i'm sure they do uh
147
148
149
i mean that would be great
150
151
152
um-hum because that's something that doesn't go back into the soil does it doesn't break down
153
154
155
no it's it's really bad to not break down
156
157
158
um-hum
159
160
161
i uh saw an article the other day in Ann Landers that talked about how long it takes like a cigarette butt to decompose and i think it was between twenty and thirty years
162
163
164
is that right i had no idea
165
166
167
yes
168
i i was i was flabbergasted and i think plastic was um plastic never totally total breaks down
169
170
171
never breaks down
172
um the Styrofoam
173
174
175
that's the one that never did yep
176
177
178
yeah never did some
179
180
181
plastic took fifty years
182
183
184
fifty years
185
186
187
yeah
188
189
190
um i know that i had heard that uh McDonald's has gotten so much flack about sending their hot foods out in the Styrofoam that they are going to work on something
191
192
193
they they have here yes i used to get my Egg McMuffin in one of those little Styrofoam cup uh cups like and now they wrap them in paper
194
195
196
other than that oh have they
197
um-hum
198
do they well good
199
200
201
yes
202
so i was really glad to see that
203
204
205
i think they're one of the businesses at large that do things like that they're more aware of it
206
207
208
they they are good
209
210
211
or at least they try and do something about it first
212
213
214
i think they recognize their their position as a community leader
215
216
217
um-hum
218
219
220
and really work to keep that going
221
222
223
i think you're right
224
225
226
so and and the only other thing i've seen has been the setting up a compost heap in your own backyard
227
228
229
um-hum
230
231
232
but that's that's hard if you don't have a big yard or if you live in an apartment
233
234
235
defiantly if you live in an apartment right
236
237
238
239
240
that might not go over real well
241
242
243
right that's for sure
244
245
246
so
247
248
249
well
250
251
252
let's see has it been i think have we been our five minutes
253
254
255
uh i really don't know i haven't been timing it but i think
256
257
258
i know the last time i did this they came on and said
259
260
261
262
263
264
265
you you have exceeded your ten minutes time limit hang up within the next thirty seconds so
266
267
268
oh okay
269
oh all right
270
271
272
um
273
274
275
well i guess we'll just say good-bye then
276
277
278
okay and and i think we just hang up i don't think we have to do anything else
279
280
281
okay
282
283
284
but it's been very nice talking to you okay
285
286
287
thank you nice to talk to you also
288
289
290
all righty bye-bye
291
292
293
bye-bye
294
295
