Dear Family, Friends, and
17
Other Invited Guests,
18
19
We are so happy you are going
20
to join us on the Big Day!
21
22
You all have such a special
23
place in our hearts, and we are delighted that you are planning to spend this
24
weekend with us as we celebrate our love for you and one another.
25
26
We want to make your stay as
27
comfortable as possible, so there are a few things you should know about Lake
28
Ponkawog. (The most important being that Bob proposed to Kathy on the eastern
29
shore one year ago!) It's hard to believe that the 12 months have flown by so
30
fast. There were so many days when we thought we wouldn't make it, either
31
psychologically or financially, so the fact that we are getting married after
32
all makes it even more special to us.
33
34
(Whoops!
35
Bob is pulling Kathy's hair and telling her to get to the point, so here
36
goes.)
37
38
39
ACCOMMODATIONS:
40
41
Located on scenic Lake
42
Ponkawog, the "Inn at Lake Ponkawog" has two rustic cabins that sleep four to
43
12 each (depending on how you feel about sharing floor space). These will be
44
assigned on a first come, first served basis. Everyone else will be
45
assigned to one of 30 tent sites--unless of course you'd like to join Bob and
46
Kathy and sleep out under the stars!
47
48
If you
49
don't own your own tent, you will be able to lease one from the inn, but in
50
that case, please bring your own mosquito netting, as many of the inn's tents
51
are old and ripped, and the lake is famous for its KILLER Squites!
52
53
CHILDREN AND
54
PETS:
55
56
Love is not about keeping
57
people out, it's about inviting people in. In other words, we want to invite
58
all those who would normally be excluded. Kathy is inviting her entire nursery
59
school class so, please, hug a 4-year-old!
60
61
Meanwhile,
62
if you believe in the domestication of animals as "pets," that's a personal
63
choice.
64
65
THE
66
FESTIVITIES:
67
68
Friday night there will be a
69
nondenominational sunset ceremony (optional, but we hope you'll come!) in front
70
of the inn followed by a vegan cookout. (BYO soy products.)
71
72
Note: As you know, Bob's
73
sobriety is something that is really important to us as a couple, so please
74
respect our wishes and keep this entire event ALCOHOL-FREE.
75
76
You'll probably want to hit
77
the sack early, b/c the nuptials themselves will take place at dawn (6:21 a.m.)
78
Saturday morning on top of Great Big Mountain. Please allow yourselves plenty
79
of time to reach the summit.
80
81
(If you're not in shape now,
82
you may want to consider embarking on a moderate program of weight training,
83
alternating with aerobic exercise--call Kathy at work if you need some tips on
84
getting started.)
85
86
For those who would prefer a
87
guided ascent to the top, trail leaders will leave base camp at 4:30 and 5 a.m.
88
The earlier departure time is for anyone desiring to scale the north face
89
rather than taking the gentler trail option (7.2 mi./elev. 4,000 feet).
90
91
92
Do not pick the
93
wildflowers , which grow in abundance (but not so abundantly as they did
94
before the hand of Man came to destroy) on the side of the trail. RESPECT
95
WILDLIFE and EACH OTHER.
96
97
For the group
98
recitation in the oral response part of the ceremony we ask that you have
99
Bob and Kathy's poem "Earth and the Womb" memorized. (Packet enclosed.)
100
101
In lieu of a reception, Dr.
102
Purdiswami will lead us in a silent meditation before the group descent and
103
song-fest. Remember:
104
105
106
Don't be shy--
107
108
109
110
Raise
111
your voice to the sky!
112
113
114
FINALLY:
115
116
117
A word
118
on Uncle Ned
119
. Bob's birth mother has an older brother, Edmund, who
120
is known in the family as "Uncle Ned." In the past, Uncle Ned has been known to
121
make rude and/or offensive statements about people of color, overweight people,
122
those struggling with addictions, men under 5'4", children, homosexuals,
123
virgins, teetotalers, and registered Democrats. Please do not take any of his
124
remarks personally, should you overhear them or (worst-case scenario) find them
125
directed at you. Don't let him get to you! If you find yourself trapped in a
126
conversation with Uncle Ned, assume either the "Down Dog" or the "Warrior One"
127
position and someone will come to your assistance as quickly as possible.
128
129
DIRECTIONS
130
TO LAKE PONKAWOG:
131
132
Take Interstate 40 to Exit
133
29. Make immediate left after toll onto unnamed/unmarked dirt road. Follow till
134
road ends (approx. 23 miles).
135
136
Abandon car at trailhead and
137
hike in four miles. When you come to the quarry, ford it. On a clear day, inn
138
and lake should be visible from far side; otherwise, follow compass heading
139
172. Stay east of the swamp ... and listen for the sounds of happy folks
140
in joyous communion .
141
142
Good luck, no gifts
143
... and see you on the 20 th !!!
