well Brad what do you hear in San Jose about Ross Perot do you hear as much do you think as we do here in Dallas
6
7
8
9
10
um probably not in anywhere near as much there have been a couple of articles uh which i've basically glanced at um
11
but that's about it i just find it interesting that somebody with that much money uh would be interested in the presidency in the first place i guess it's it's as much you know just the sense of power and the sense of being able to accomplish things
12
13
14
15
16
17
18
uh as much as anything else i don't know it seems to me that if i had that kind of money i would feel like i were more influential as a private citizen than as the president
19
20
21
well that could be uh Ross Ross Perot is not a politician i mean
22
23
24
this is kind of new to him
25
26
27
um-hum
28
29
30
i i don't know are you familiar with things that he's done in the past that have gotten quite a bit of attention
31
like uh rescuing the EDS employees that were being held in jail in Tehran
32
33
34
hum no no i hadn't i hadn't really paid that much attention
35
36
37
38
39
yeah i mean this was this was a few years ago probably ten or so ten or twelve
40
41
42
uh-huh
43
44
45
uh he hired uh some retired Army guys to go in after him and and supposedly even i think went in by himself with went in to see them disguised you know as somebody else
46
47
48
wow
49
50
51
but uh he at least ended up over there in one of the neighboring companies probably countries probably Afghanistan or something to meet them when they came out of uh
52
out of Iran
53
and i think he was uh maybe a little getting a little bit involved in politics or something during the Vietnam war he uh tried to send supplies over to the prisoners
54
55
56
um-hum
57
58
59
and i don't know i of course we hear a lot of him because he lives here in the Dallas area
60
61
62
what kind of i mean this this obviously says something for his um
63
you know something for one aspect of his character what kind of person is he in terms of
64
65
66
i he was an outstanding salesman at IBM i've read until he quit there and started his own company which he later sold out to General Motors and
67
68
69
um-hum
70
71
72
and uh it since then he's started a new company but i think he must be a very good salesman or at least he was at some time um
73
my impression is that he's a pretty honest person
74
75
76
be kind of a change
77
78
79
oh i i've heard him on the radio and whatnot i mean he just seems very forthright he he he doesn't have to play games
80
81
82
yeah
83
84
85
86
87
88
89
he's already he's already won
90
91
92
i mean that he
93
that's right that's right i i'm just curious to see what's gonna happen to the political scene uh if he gets on the ballot in all the states and whatnot do you do you think he cans be a spoiler for Bush
94
95
96
um-hum
97
um
98
i honestly don't think so uh not unless he really puts a lot of effort into it and i don't think he wants to i think it's
99
uh i think being a seriously considered being seriously considered as a presidential candidate is something that um
100
it it just takes a really huge investment in personal effort not just you know i mean i'm sure it takes a lot of money as well
101
102
103
oh yeah
104
105
106
but um just in terms of the number of personal appearances that you've got to make and all the the the hoops that you've got to jump through in order to get the media sound bites and get people paying attention to you i mean
107
108
109
all the backslapping
110
111
112
an occasional newspaper article will will show up for for any variety of things but being considered seriously i think is you know may take more than he's willing to put into it
113
114
115
yeah
116
uh yeah yeah could be
117
could be i i also suspect that one aspect of his personality would be that he would be really really tenacious
118
119
120
hum
121
122
123
or or maybe stubborn even i don't know so i don't know you know he he might
124
125
126
127
128
129
130
decide to go whole hog and really go out and and turn into a politician and do all the back slapping and and uh handshaking and all that kiss a few babies i suppose
131
132
133
yeah well i don't suppose he'd have to do a whole lot of fund raising or uh
134
worry a whole lot about where the funding was coming from so he'd have that advantage
135
136
137
yeah
138
yeah
139
yeah it's um
140
certainly different i mean Bush is wealthy
141
142
143
um-hum
144
145
146
but nothing like that
147
148
149
yeah
150
151
152
i i mean i don't know what they put Perot's wealth at i think it's probably a few billion or something i
153
154
155
yeah i've i've i've heard it in the billions i didn't hear specifics i figured once it you know once it reaches that point it doesn't really matter how many numbers are in front of the B you know it
156
157
158
yeah
159
160
161
162
163
it's passed it's passed any kind of reasonable imagining in the first place so
164
165
166
yeah
167
well i the
168
in a way i i'm interested in his candidacy i'd like to i'd like to kind of get
169
170
171
172
